JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) seeks applicants for an Assistant Research Professor in Applied Mathematics focused on waves in fluids. The main goals of research are in the mathematical modeling and theory of water waves, as well as scientific computing. JOB DESCRIPTION

This one-year research position is housed in the Department of Mathematical Sciences within the research projects of Prof. André Nachbin. One project concerns water waves on graphs, as in branching channels, and another concerns wave-particle systems in connection with a bouncing droplet and its hydrodynamic pilot-wave.

The successful candidate is expected to have experience in the potential theory for water waves, or other water wave models. Familiarity with reduced (asymptotic) modeling is welcome. Experience with numerically solving partial differential equations is a plus.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences has an extensive research program, in areas which include Analysis, Financial Technology and Operations Research, Fluid Dynamics, Mechanics, Mathematical Modeling, and Computation in Life Sciences, Mathematical/Quantitative Finance, Mathematics of Materials Science, Numerical Analysis, Partial Differential Equations, Probability, Scientific Machine Learning, and Stochastic Analysis.
