Bringing the best Data and ML engineers to companies with complex data tasks | RMG Digital

Salary: £60,000 – £90,000 + 10% discretionary bonus + share options

Contract Type: Permanent

Start Date: ASAP

About Us

Our partner is a fast-growing tech business on a mission to scale a team of 30+ and has big ambitions. They're building out core infrastructure to support internal innovation and future AI-powered capabilities. The engineering team is split between the UK and international developers, and are now looking to bring in a specialist to own and develop a critical new part of our stack.

About the Role

We're hiring an AI Engineer with MCP (Model Context Protocol) experience to lead the development of an MCP server that will make data across the tech stack available for agentic AI consumption.

This is a blank canvas opportunity – there’s no legacy code or rigid process to navigate. We need someone confident enough to take ownership of a greenfield build, while collaborating with our Lead Engineer and broader UK-based team.

We’re looking for someone to join full-time, to help spin up MCP in the first 6 months, and iterate beyond that as the platform evolves.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain a brand-new MCP (Model Context Protocol) from scratch
  • Make tech stack data accessible to agentic AI systems
  • Work alongside the Lead Engineer to integrate the platform into business operations
  • Create robust control logic and performance optimization for AI processes
  • Develop tools, APIs, and interfaces that streamline access and insights from the platform
  • Continuously improve the platform post-MCP launch

Tech Environment

  • Languages: Node.js, Python, occasional Java
  • Tools: Bitbucket, Git, internal CI/CD tools
  • Team: 2 UK-based devs (plus overseas contributors)
  • Office: London-based (1 day per week expected)

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience building or contributing to MCP build and agentic AI systems
  • Strong software engineering background with experience in Python and API integration
  • Comfortable working with real-time data, system modelling, and performance optimisation
  • Proactive, able to thrive in greenfield environments with little technical precedent
  • Mid-level experience – enough to be autonomous but eager to grow
  • Collaborative and communicative – you’ll report into the CEO or Lead Engineer directly

Interview Process

  • Stage 1: Technical interview (includes practical task)
  • Stage 2: Conversation with CTO and Lead Engineer
  • Stage 3: Culture and values interview

What is Offered

  • 10% discretionary bonus
  • Share options
  • Hybrid working with supportive, high-growth environment
  • The opportunity to shape a core AI capability from the ground up

If you’re excited by agentic AI, thrive on building from scratch, and want to shape something that will scale across an ambitious tech business – we’d love to hear from you.
