Reporting to the Head of Operations & Strategy, the Vice President, Data and Analytics is responsible for leading the creation and operation of a centralized analytics function that delivers insights to power decision-making and strategic planning across the organization. This leader will take overall ownership of Reuters data assets, enterprise data science capabilities and data governance, managing a global team of 30 data professionals to drive innovation in news delivery, audience engagement, and content optimization.
This role requires a transformative data executive who can balance strategic vision with technical expertise, driving innovation and change in news media while delivering tangible improvements in content quality, audience engagement, and revenue through data-driven insights and analytics.
About The Role
In this opportunity asVice President, Data and Analytics, Reutersyou will be responsible for:
Strategy and Leadership
- Define, develop, and implement a holistic data strategy encompassing editorial, sales, marketing, and product functions.
- Drive the implementation of enterprise-wide data policies and improved data processes.
- Lead cross-functional teams and projects using advanced data modelling and analysis techniques to enhance news production, distribution, and monetization.
- Shift the organizational culture to embrace data as a strategic advantage.
Data Management and Governance
- Manage processes and people responsible for accurate data collection, processing, modelling, analysis, reporting, and governance.
- Establish and own enterprise data quality standards, data dictionary, and data integrity throughout the data lifecycle.
- Develop and implement quality controls and standards to meet organizational expectations and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure Reuters has necessary processes in place for privacy, consent and data compliance across the organization.
Analytics and Insights
- Utilize advanced data modelling, predictive modelling, and analytical techniques to interpret key findings and leverage insights to drive editorial decisions, audience growth, revenue optimization and other business outcomes.
- Build, develop, and maintain data and ML/AI/GAI models, reporting systems, data automation systems, dashboards, and performance metrics.
- Oversee the design and delivery of reports and insights that analyse business functions, key operations news consumption patterns, content performance, and revenue streams.
Technology and Infrastructure
- In collaboration with technology, build and maintain core Reuters data technology and standards, such as data collection and integration tools, and data products.
- In collaboration with partners, evolve our core data platforms based on Snowflake, Dbt, Python, Manta, and Alation.
- In collaboration with the Enterprise Data & Analytics and Technology teams, identify needs for new and changes to existing infrastructure/tools.
- Work with the Enterprise Data & Analytics and Technology teams to ensure that Reuters is leveraging our Best in Breed Modern Data Platform.
- Maintain existing legacy infrastructure/tools while driving the transformation to our core data platform.
- Manage relationships with key vendors and partners and with Thomson Reuters central procurement, security and standards & governance teams with respect to those vendors and partners.
Business Enablement
- Partner with editorial, product and business leaders to objectively define and assess performance, drive actionable insights, and enable decision-making through analytics.
- Accelerate the pace of analytics and AI utilization across Reuters by building a best-in-class data science and analytics organization.
- Unlock the value of the firm’s data to improve editorial productivity, audience experience and increase revenue (including advertising and subscription) across all Reuters audiences.
Collaboration and Influence
- Work across Reuters to build capabilities and align delivery.
- Facilitate the setting of data management standards and monitor remediation and implementation activities.
- Communicate results and business impacts of insight initiatives to leadership and stakeholders.
Key Deliverables
- Build and centralize the data and analytics function and resources.
- Develop short-term and long-term analytics strategies that drive business outcomes.
- Establish governance and framework for structured/consistent reporting across the organization.
- Ensure data and analytical models are accurate, performant, reliable, and aligned to TR’s Data & Model standards.
- Drive enhanced information security and data protection.
- Enable the establishment of an Agile, data-driven environment.
- Build a strong high-functioning data engineering function.
About You
You’re a fit for the role ofVice President, Data and Analytics, Reutersif your background includes:
- Experience in building and leading teams in Data Science and AI/ML, Business Analytics, Reporting and Visualization, and Data Engineering teams.
- Proven experience and demonstrated success as a data and analytics expert in news media or related digital content industries with a minimum of 5 years of experience in analytics model development and business intelligence, with experience in senior data & analytics leadership positions.
- Extensive technical background in the development and deployment of advanced analytics for content optimization and audience engagement.
- Experience setting data strategy and building roadmaps for data systems and AI/ML models.
- Deep understanding of technology and tools needed to collect, analyse, and visualize data.
- Strong business, financial, and commercial acumen with a solid grasp of news media revenue models (subscriptions, advertising, licensing).
- Experience working with large, complex datasets and using world-class advanced analytical tools related to news content, audience behaviour, and digital engagement.
- Ability to deconstruct complex problems with data analysis.
- Knowledge of both open source and commercial vendor technical solutions.
- Demonstrated success in a large, matrixed, global news media organization or digital content company.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to attract, motivate, and develop top talent.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization and to translate data insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a news media setting.
- Strategic mindset combined with operational approach to drive the organization’s data journey in a rapidly evolving media landscape.
- Adaptability and comfort with ambiguity and uncertainty and the need for real-time data insights.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The location(s) for this role include one or more of the following metro locations: Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $206,400 – $383,200. The base compensation range in other locations may vary. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
