Job Title:Data Scientist

Job Type:Permanent

Location:York or London (Hybrid)


IntroductionAre you a critical thinker with a passion for data analytics? A key client of Finitas and an industry leader in specialty insurance is seeking a Data Scientist to join a dynamic team. This role is perfect for a recent graduate with a year of industry experience or someone with 1-2 years in an analytical role.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop critical business insights using industry standards, emerging methodologies, and empirical research.
  • Work on end-to-end data solutions, including understanding complex business challenges, designing scientific solutions, and using cutting-edge machine learning or statistical modelling techniques.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, data engineers, and other technical teams, including pricing, to support the maturation of analytics practices.
  • Contribute to delivering value through a range of analytics techniques, particularly with the Major Property team over the next 18 months.


Person Specification:

  • Degree in a STEM or closely related field.
  • Experience or a genuine interest in data science and advanced analytics.
  • Commercial experience in data science or data analysis.
  • Skills in predictive and prescriptive analysis, including predictive modelling, machine learning, or data mining.
  • Proficiency with analytical tools and programming languages such as R, Python, and SQL.
  • Interest in machine learning techniques, from simple linear models to deep learning.


Nice to Have:

  • Experience in finance, insurance, or Ecommerce.
  • Knowledge of insurance, particularly Lloyd's and/or property insurance.
